chART – mapping creative Medway & Swale…
Kent Coastal Week 27 October – 4 November 2012 11am-4pm FREE
Come to see what our ShipMates together with local residents and artists have created over the summer – two giant sea-chART collages featuring creative ‘hot-spots’, local landmarks, favourite visitor attractions and other places of interest along the river Medway and Swale Estuary.
With funding from Kent Art Investment Fund, HMS2 Maritime Heritage Project and Kent Coastal Week, we set out to create a chART celebrating and ‘mapping out’ the creative people, places, events and activities along north Kent coastline.
Through a series of free artist led hands-on workshops, participants from all age groups across Medway and Swale were invited to join in and make their mark on these local ‘treasure maps’, sharing their knowledge of all things creative in the area.
You can still add your suggestions to the chARTs on display during the exhibition, and also make and take away your own personalised signage buoys to mark your chosen areas of interest along the coast. All materials provided but participants are encouraged to bring in suitable found objects and materials to add to the collages.
This is an ongoing project and we’re looking to expand our mapping across north Kent and further along river Medway soon. If you would like to find out more please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Kent Coastal Week’s activities are all free of charge but donations towards the ongoing restoration and future community activities are welcomed.
Please wear suitable flat, non-slip shoes on board and note that the vessel is a restoration work in progress and access is limited. Please contacts us if you want to discuss any access issues in more detail.
Free parking available on site.
