Friday 20 – Sunday 22 June | 1pm-6pm
New site-specific audio-visual installation by Mats Lindström and Anna Koch aboard LV21.
TÖNE is a new festival of sonic and visual arts that explores the vibrant experiences of place and time that they create. In its first year, TÖNE celebrates the Midsummer weekend of Friday 20th-Sunday 22nd June with the theme ‘A Meeting of Sound and Light’. A pre-festival programme from Monday June 9th-Thursday June 19th will build towards the main festival weekend. Broadcasts, artist workshops and talks offer further means of joining the adventure.
The programme of performances and installations includes ambitious new commissions and site-specific stagings of artworks by internationally-acclaimed artists from countries including Australia, the United States, France, Sweden, England, and Northern Ireland. From a new solar light sculpture on Sun Pier by James Geurts and a sound installation by Kathy Hinde at Fort Amherst, to a wandering cello trio at the Historic Dockyard, an audio-visual installation by Mats Lindström and Anna Koch aboard LV21, and an exhibition by Steve Klee at The High Street dramatising the history of the workforce in Chatham, to an ice-installation and sound performance by Tomoko Sauvage.
The Midsummer timing of the festival combines with the significance of 2014 as the 100th year since the outbreak of the First World War. TÖNE invites you on a journey through the seasonal, maritime and military resonances of Chatham and the Medway area.
