ESTUARY STORIES | HERITAGE OPEN DAYS 2022
Come along for a stroll along the historic Gravesend Riverfront at St Andrew's Gardens in north Kent and step aboard the national historic Lightship LV21 to explore her decks and learn about the surrounding Thames and Medway Estuary.
As part of the Heritage Open Days activity aboard LV21, we invite you to come along to learn about the history of the lightship and explore the once inhabited islands of the Medway Estuary, enter the shipwreck of a WW1 German submarine, discover the abandoned Victorian Forts and find out where the Samphire grows. Presented by Adam Taylor, a keen canoeist with 13 years experience of exploring the Medway Estuary, an illustrated talk will give you the unique opportunity to delve into an archive of his personal photos, historical research and stories from local river users focusing on five interesting islands; Darnet, Hoo, Nor, Burntwick, and Kort/Magnus Island with a little info on Deadmans.
The 1-hour talk starts at 11am with an opportunity for Q&A and a look around the ship. Due to tidal conditions all visitors must exit the ship by 12.30pm.

Please note: Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times. As a historic ship access aboard LV21 is limited with main entry via a gangway and a steep staircase. Please wear flat, non-slip shoes when onboard. Regrettably there is no wheelchair access to the ship.
