PULL UP A CHAIR

Anne Langford, a theatre director, facilitator and performer, will be taking up a Pull Up A Chair artist residency in Gravesham in March 2021. In partnership with LV21 she will be exploring the theme ‘PRIDE’ with local residents and communities during the residency period.

Pull Up a Chair is an Arts Council funded project piloting an alternative artist residency model specifically designed for socially engaged artists. It’s an artist residency with a difference. The original format was designed to allow an artist to immerse themselves in a community unknown to them prior to their visit - experiencing what it is like to live, work and play in that place for 28 days. During the residency the artist is asked to refrain from making new artwork and instead will follow an intense programme of scheduled activities to explore the area and meet local people.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions the Gravesham residency will significantly differ from the original format but Anne is hoping to immerse herself in the local life and connect with people through arranged phone calls, letter correspondence, online chats, site visits and outdoor meetings with individuals as allowed within the current restrictions.
