FROM THE MOUTH OF RIVER MEDWAY...
Join us outside Sun Pier House to “listen" to the River Medway and help us gather a bumper catch of “river voices”...
Straight from the mouth of River Medway…
Our crew is stepping ashore to join forces with the wonderful Festival of Chatham Reach at Sun Pier House.
This family-friendly festival celebrates the rich heritage of the River Medway and the preservation of historic vessels with a wide programme of fun activities throughout the day.
Join us outside Sun Pier House to “listen" to the River Medway and help us gather a bumper catch of “river voices”. As a reward you’ll be able to make and take away your very own “talking” river habitant.
On the day we will also be celebrating the unveiling of Story of Water, a striking new public artwork at Chatham Waterfront. Commissioned by the Medway Development Company, the ceramic mural was created by artists Nicole Mollett and José den Hartog. You’ll be able to view this 20 metre long artwork, consisting of 612 hand painted tiles inspired by the River Medway, just a short walk away from Sun Pier at the Waterfront Pumping Station and take part in creative activity inspired by the artwork.
We hope to see you there!

A fun and creative workshop using a marbling technique called suminagashi (floating ink) using paper and ink.
The art of paper marbling originated in China about 2,000 years ago. Originally, it was a secret technique. In suminagashi, you create a pattern with sumi ink and water, this pattern can be distorted in various ways, but the character of the water always remains visible

This activity is part of the WHOOP Heritage Festival Satellite Programme made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
