RECONNECT: Gravesham Creative Summer School

FREE five day Summer School led by UCA open to young people aged 15-16 (years 10-12) from Gravesham and Dartford.

Applications NOW OPEN! The deadline for applications is 23:59 on Sunday 31st July.

All creative materials required will be provided free of charge, and support with travel is available for target students.

This Summer School is suitable for 15-16 year olds with an interest in creative subjects - you need to have a passion for Art and Design but you don't need any previous experience and you don't have to be studying a creative subject at school/college to take part. Our Summer School aims to be inclusive - creativity is for everyone!

If you have any special requirements (learning needs, access needs, disability support, preferred pronouns, allergies etc) then please let us know on your application form and we will try our best to make sure your experience with us is comfortable and enjoyable. If you'd like to ask us anything about the Summer School in advance of applying, please email outreach@uca.ac.uk.

You will be taking inspiration from your local area and surroundings, explore techniques in Art and Design and reconnect with the arts during this five day Summer School. At the creative locations of the historic lightship LV21, transformed into a floating cultural centre, and St Andrew's Arts Centre in Gravesend along the River Thames, you will have the opportunity to try new creative disciplines, find out more about creative pathways, and add to your portfolio of work.

The Summer School will include:

  • Creative workshops covering different creative disciplines
  • The opportunity to meet practising artists and UCA Student Ambassadors
  • Support in creating your own portfolio of creative work
  • An off-site trip to a local exhibition
  • The opportunity to display your work in a group exhibition

You'll also get the chance to work towards a Bronze Arts Award, a level 1 qualification that is great for your CV if you're interested in progressing in future creative study or careers.

This activity is provided by the Kent and Medway Collaborative Outreach Programme (KaMCOP) in collaboration with LV21. KaMCOP is part of the national Uni Connect Programme, which aims to increase the number of young people from underrepresented groups and areas accessing higher education.
