Lookout Project Launched

It’s sometimes difficult to find time in our everyday lives to observe and explore our immediate surroundings; to take in the neighbourhood and reflect on constant changes taking place around us. We feel that the key in developing Medway and Swale as creative places, and involving its residents as active participants in the arts, is to provide an opportunity for people of all backgrounds, ages, abilities and interests to do just that – to lookout, reflect on their observations, work on their ideas and create new approaches to help develop an environment where creativity thrives. Lookout is one of four ‘Out of the Ordinary’ projects supported by Ideas Test, an Arts Council England funded Creative People and Places programme.

Art is at the heart of the Lookout activity – artists across artforms collaborating and working together with local the community. Through the project we want to ensure that local people will be empowered to deliver their own arts activities, providing opportunities to work with artists and get inspired by artistic programming, producing and curating.

The first free Lookout workshop will take place on Sat 19 October 11am-3pm at Hillyfields in Gillingham. Join in the family friendly arts activity making your own ‘look, listen and observe’ devices to take away or just sit back, relax and share your thoughts and ideas with us.

Our first Lookout artist in residence Jim Backhouse from Radio Arts will be ‘all ears’ at Hillyfields collecting stories about people’s favourite Medway sounds in preparation for his Lookout event aboard LV21 on Thu 31 October.

FREE – All materials provided. Suitable for all ages and abilities.
